The Wind Symphony is an audition-only performing ensemble that focuses on the advanced musician. The group has a set instrumentation that sticks closely to one player per part. Auditions will be due online for current students by April 18th at 5:00pm. 8th Graders may audition at the end of May, more details will be given to your Band Directors. Past membership in the ensemble does not guarantee a spot the following year. Students study advanced music theory, ear training, and fine tune technical skills needed to perform advanced literature. In addition to rehearsing during the regular school day, the band has one mandatory evening practice per week. The Wind Symphony performs Class 4, 5, and 6 literature, and participates in concerts and festivals throughout the school year. Wind Symphony students are required to prepare a solo or small ensemble piece performed at a Solo & Ensemble Festival. Students receive Wind Ensemble honors credit their junior and senior years.
In 2015, all members of the Wind Symphony will be traveling to New York City to perform in Carnagie Hall during spring break. Please view the "New York" page for more information.
The Concert Band is an ensemble designed to focus on the younger musician. All students in the Concert Band must posses basic playing proficiency. Students get a good overview of music theory and develop the technical skills needed to advance into Wind Ensemble. Concert Band performs Class 2, 3, and 4 literature, and participates in concerts and festivals during the school year. Performance at a Solo & Ensemble Festival is optional. Students receive fine arts credit.
