ITALY REHEARSAL & MEETING
Today (1/13) we have our first rehearsal at Palm Desert High School from 2-5 p.m. The four pieces we will be working on are English Folk Song Suite Mvt. 1, Pixar Movie Magic, On a Hymn Song of Philip Bliss, and The Washington Post March. There will be a Parent/Student Meeting following the rehearsal at 5:00 p.m.
WINTER DRUMLINE PARENT/STUDENT MEETING
Monday at 7:00 p.m. is a mandatory parent/student meeting for any students in the 2013 LQHS Winter Drumline. Items covered will be the 2013 show, fees, transportation and volunteer needs, and fundraisers. We rely heavily on parent volunteers to make the drumline successful!
WIND ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS
Wind Ensemble Auditions are this Thursday, January 17. Students currently enrolled in Wind Ensemble must also audition. The audition material includes:
1. All twelve major scales (q=72+ and two octaves where applicable)
2. Solo excerpt (played musically and at a comfortable tempo)
3. "Nitro" excerpt up to meas. 33 (comfortable tempo)
Using a metronome and tuner in home practice is a must. If you have any questions or need help, do not hesitate to ask Mr. Loney. The band room and practice rooms will be open every day at lunch and after school. Becoming a member of the Wind Ensemble is based on preparation of the material, musicality, and attitude. Students are also evaluated on steadiness of tempos, tone quality, and pitch. Over prepare!
The Blackhawk Brigade will be performing at Disneyland this Friday, January 18. We have two remaining mandatory rehearsals this Tuesday 3-5 p.m. and Thursday 3-4 p.m. Students must attend all rehearsals and have their music memorized to go to Disneyland perform and with the Blackhawk Brigade. We will be performing in full uniform, so please make sure your student's white marching shoes are polished and their black compression shirt and shorts are accounted for. If you are a parent that volunteered to wash the white marching band pants, please bring these back by Monday (1/14).
SOLO & ENSEMBLE
All woodwinds and brass players must prepare a solo or small ensemble piece. The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble final will be the performance of the selected piece. Students are expected to prepare their piece outside of class. Students in Wind Ensemble are required to participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival on Saturday, February 2 at Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School. Exceptional students from Concert Band may also choose to participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival with Mr. Loney's permission.
