Congratulations to the Jazz Band on earning SUPERIOR and 1st Place at the 2013 PDHS Jazz Festival this Saturday! They also had a great clinic with Mark Richard from the RCC Jazz Program. Outstanding soloist awards were Bryan Garcia and Nick Henry! Winter Guard and Winter Drumline also had great performances and placed 2nd at their competitions. Also, awesome job Jazz Band last Thursday performing at the Hideaway Golf Course and earning a $1,200 donation for our program! Thank you to all the parents who have attended performances and competitions supporting our students, transporting equipment, driving and feeding our kids! We would like to give a special thank you to Norma and her family for renting a uHaul and driving vans for the drumline the last two weekends!
We would like to welcome our new Color Guard Caption Head - Chris Cordova! Chris is currently the Color Guard Director at Colony HS (since 2010) and also teaches at Shadow Hills HS and Palm Desert HS. He has marched with top groups in Drum Corps and Color Guard, including The Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corp (2006), The Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band and Color Guard (2006), The Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corp (2007-2011), Corona Winterguard (2009), Fantasia Winterguard (2011), and the TV series GLEE. Chris replaces Jason Oakley, who has been a huge part of the Blackhawk Brigade family.
STUDENTS: We have an important week of rehearsals as we prepare for Brigade Blast. This is our last uninterrupted week before STAR Testing and musical rehearsals. Show up to every rehearsal with your music prepared. Make it count!!

BRIGADE BLAST SIGN UPS ON CHARMS!
PARENTS: Brigade Blast is our biggest fundraiser and performance of the year! We have a record number of performances, schools, donations, and concession stand items this year, so we need all hands on deck! We are asking each family to sign up for at least one shift to make this event possible. We need help with our concession stand, grilling burgers, checking in students, taking ticket money, guarding entrances at doorways, directing traffic, running the director hospitality room, selling programs, helping with the raffle, and more! Brigade Blast has the potential to be the largest fundraiser to date, but we cannot do it without your help. Here's the direct link to sign up on Charms:
BRIGADE BLAST TICKETS & BASKET ITEM DONATION
Each family in the LQHS Instrumental Music Program is being asked to sell at least $25 worth of Brigade Blast tickets. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students. If you would like to check out more tickets see Mr. Loney. The deadline for ticket sales is Thursday, April 25, 2013. Each family is also responsible to donate one, new item that can be used for a gift basket for Brigade Blast. Suggestions for basket items are divided by the student's last name. Start turning in ticket money and basket items today!
