CONGRATS & THANK YOU
Winter Drumline, Winter Guard and the newly formed Percussion Ensemble did an awesome job at SHHS Spring Spectacular last week! Congratulations to the Winter Drumline for earning 2nd place at their first show at Cajon HS and being promoted to Open Class! Congrats to our Winter Guard for getting 1st place at their show last week at Kaiser HS! Thank you all the drumline and guard parents who have provided support to our instructors and students! We would also like to thank Jeremy Hackworth for a great clinic with the Wind Ensemble and Tim Hagans and Mark Masters for an awesome clinic with the Jazz Band!
IMPORTANT BOOSTER MEETING 4/3
This Wednesday 4/3 we have an important Booster Meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the LQHS Band Room (301)! We must nominate and vote on the 2013-2014 Executive Board (Booster President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian). Once the five members of the Executive Board are in place, we nominate the rest of the board that includes Events Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Equipment Manager(s), Uniform Manger(s), and Color Guard and Drumline Representatives. The Blackhawk Brigade, color guard, drumline, and bands cannot function without your support and help. If you are a freshmen, sophomore, or junior parent and have helped with the Blackhawk Brigade, consider taking a bigger role with the organization and our students. We strongly encourage all parents to come out this Wednesday to nominate an outstanding Executive Board for next year's program. This is very important to make sure your child's music program continues the great leadership and direction implemented by our current board. This is also the last general Booster Meeting the 2013 Brigade Blast - our biggest fundraiser of the year.
BRIGADE BLAST TICKETS & BASKET ITEM DONATION
Each family in the LQHS Instrumental Music Program is being asked to sell at least $25 worth of Brigade Blast tickets. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students. If you would like to check out more tickets see Mr. Loney. The deadline for ticket sales is Thursday, April 25, 2013. Each family is also responsible to donate one, new item that can be used for a gift basket for Brigade Blast. Suggestions for basket items are divided by the student's last name.
Please check for itineraries from Mr. Loney, Jason, and Jeremy for this week's performances. Continue to make improvements this week and represent La Quinta HS to the best of your ability!
PRACTICE VS. REHEARSAL
Each class period that we meet with the bands is a rehearsal where we work primarily on group musical issues. All LQHS band students are required to practice, working on individual aspects of their instrument and music. Please ask your child about their practice habits and encourage them to practice their instrument outside of class. This will make our rehearsals run more smoothly and will help your student perform at a higher level. Practice should be considered "homework" for band. Students should come to rehearsal with their notes and rhythms prepared ahead of time.
"You don’t come to rehearsal to learn your part, but rather to learn everybody else’s part."
~ Eugene Corporon, University of North Texas College of Music
This Friday we have an Italy rehearsal from 6-9 p.m. at LQHS. Practice your parts as we prepare for our dinner and first concert on Sunday, April 21st. Students should have also received concert & dinner tickets to sell for $20 each. If you need more tickets to sell just ask Mr. Loney. These are the pieces we will be performing at the concert: Washington Post, Flourish for Winds, Ye Banks and Braes, Folk Song Suite #1, On A Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss, West Side Story, and National Emblem.
