AUDITIONS & MEMBERSHIP
Students are evaluated during Band Workshops and Band Camp. Membership in the Blackhawk Brigade is based on attendance, musical & marching ability, attitude, and improvement. Attendance at Workshops and Band Camp is mandatory, but does not guarantee a position in the Blackhawk Brigade.
The Blackhawk Brigade is La Quinta High School's award-winning marching band that travels and competes throughout Southern California. The Blackhawk Brigade is one of the largest and hardest working student organizations at La Quinta High School. This prestigious group is comprised of young musicians and dancers that develop and perform a field show for competition. These students share a passion for performing and strive for excellence.
All band, percussion, and color guard members MUST attend summer band camp to be admitted into the field show for the fall semester. Let Mr. Jewett know at once if this is a problem. We perform shortly after the school year starts, and it is very difficult to catch up after missing 150 hours of instruction!
In order to pay for our camp instructors, the field show music and drill, and the students’ summer uniforms, a $250 Band Camp Participation Cost is due the first day of camp. We are unable to run the Band Camp without these funds. ($150 by June 15, $150 on the first day of camp).
All students must bring a 1-gallon water jug and wear a hat, tennis shoes, and athletic clothing. Students without these items will be sent home for safety reasons. Go to bed early and hydrate before each day of Band Camp. The Blackhawk Brigade runs on time, so arrive early with all necessary equipment and materials.
